Poetry Month - Part 3

Besides being a writer, Wendell Berry has also spent much of his life as a farmer. His close ties with nature inform much of his poetry. I was first introduced to him when a friend slipped a copy of "The Peace of Wild Things" into my mailbox because she thought I'd like it. I did, and I still do. Here's another of my favorites...

The Wild Rose
Wendell Berry

Sometimes hidden from me
in daily custom and in trust,
so that I live by you unaware
as by the beating of my heart.

Suddenly you flare in my sight,
a wild rose blooming at the edge
of thicket, grace and light
where yesterday was only shade,

and once again I am blessed, choosing
again what I chose before.
