Baby Signing Time

Liza is loving the "Baby Signing Time" DVDs. They help her wait more patiently while Mama is preparing meals. She's picked up a few of the signs and approximates a few others. She also has added some new spoken words to her vocabulary, and Mama has a whole new repertoire of catchy tunes to get stuck in her head!

"Hello, Shadow"

It's amazing to witness a moment of discovery. I've had the privilege of watching many of those "light bulb" moments during my time as a teacher. Seeing my own child make sense of her world though...

JOY times ten.

Liza discovered her shadow today. I was lucky enough to be there to watch.

Good music, great story, and one of my most beloved books plays a starring role.

It's my new favorite movie...definitely.

Though I've been neglecting my blog lately,

Because of a Teacher

By chance, I stumbled upon the most uplifting Dateline episode tonight. "The Education of Ms. Groves" told the story of Monica Groves who, inspired by her first grade teacher, spent the year after college graduation teaching sixth grade English in an Atlanta middle school. I laughed, and I cried, and I saw so much of myself as she struggled along that rocky road. She triumphed in the end...all because of the example set by Ms. Kamminga.

#1 This little birdie survived a head-on collision with our picture window. Thankfully there were no dogs present in the backyard at the time, and with a little help from me, she found her legs and hopped to safety.

#2 A matinee of "Sex and the City" was all I had hoped it would be...such a fun way to spend the afternoon!

After three long months...

Grey's Anatomy is finally back with new episodes! I've had this date marked on my calendar since they first announced its return. Hooray! Yippee! It was a good episode, and next week looks to be even more exciting...only seven more days!
