We skipped town for two nights and had a fabulous time.
On Thursday night Lee played in a lacrosse game with a local club team. It was a late game under the lights, a bit chilly, but fun to watch him on the field again. We relied on his (usually dependable) navigational skills to find our hotel across town from the game. Luckily we had a map, found a restaurant still serving dinner, and made it to our hotel before midnight.
Friday was a full day. It's a good thing we slept in because we stayed up and partied college-style last night. Lee and I spent the morning in a coffee shop, sipping on a mocha and iced chai latte, nibbling on a fresh-out-of-the-oven cinnamon roll, reading the paper, and journaling...my idea of a perfect morning, really. We whiled away the afternoon in a bookstore, a wine shop, and a brewery...the perfectness continuing. Last night was spent with our close friends. After a work dinner party, we hit the town all dressed up and ready for fun. The boys stuck to regular martinis and beer, but the ladies had some delicious girly drinks...peaches & cream, caramel espresso, mango, and pear martinis. Yum! Across the street we were entertained by dueling pianos, and later the boys provided the entertainment as they attempted to play pool into the wee hours of the morning.
Today was spent recovering from all the fun. The dogs got a post-kennel bath, and we all took much needed naps.
Tonight I'm thankful for the JOY of weekends away, cozy coffee shops, good friends, yummy drinks, laughter, and a comfy home to return to.
